Cassius

Cassius, the pioneering French electronic music duo, was formed in 1996 by producers Philippe Zdar (Philippe Cerboneschi) and Boom Bass (Hubert Blanc-Francard) in Paris. Known for blending house, funk, hip-hop, and disco, Cassius rapidly became central to the French Touch movement alongside peers like Daft Punk and Air. Their debut album, *1999*, released in 1999, introduced international audiences to their energetic yet sophisticated production style, marked by hits such as “Cassius 1999” and “Feeling for You.

” Over the following years, Cassius continued to push the boundaries of electronic music with albums such as *Au Rêve* (2002), *15 Again* (2006), and *Ibifornia* (2016), crafting songs that mixed club sensibilities with pop hooks and innovative sound design. Their remix work for artists like Madonna, Depeche Mode, and Phoenix further cemented their status in the electronic music community. Renowned for their dynamic live sets and ability to bridge underground and mainstream sounds, Cassius influenced a generation of producers and shaped the sound of late 1990s and 2000s dance music.

Philippe Zdar’s additional acclaim as a producer for artists like Phoenix, Cat Power, and Franz Ferdinand contributed to the duo’s broad impact on modern music. The project came to a sudden end with Zdar’s untimely passing in June 2019, but Cassius remains celebrated for their innovation, groove, and enduring influence on electronic music globally.
