Baltimore native DJ Spen (Sean Spencer) began his career in music at age 13, spinning records for local radio station WEBB and forming the hip-hop group Numarx, which contributed to the creation of the multi-platinum hit "Girl You Know It’s True" (later made famous by Milli Vanilli). In the early 1990s, Spen transitioned to house music, joining the Basement Boys, a production collective responsible for shaping the sound of soulful house music. In this period, he worked with major artists such as Michael Jackson, Crystal Waters, and Ultra Naté.
Throughout the 2000s, DJ Spen established his reputation as a solo artist, producer, and remixer. He launched Quantize Recordings in 2012, providing a platform for soulful, gospel, and disco-infused house. Renowned for energetic DJ sets and expertly crafted productions, Spen’s original releases and remixes have topped charts worldwide, including Billboard’s Dance Charts.
He’s collaborated with industry legends like Louie Vega, Barbara Tucker, and Crystal Waters. DJ Spen remains a pivotal figure in the evolution of house music, continuously touring internationally, influencing new generations of artists and fans, and maintaining a central role in the global dance scene.
