Drew McDowall

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1961, Drew McDowall emerged as a key figure in the UK's post-punk industrial scene. A self-taught musician, McDowall’s early experiences with punk bands in the late 1970s shaped his uncompromising, experimental approach. He joined the influential outfit Psychic TV in the early 1980s before moving on to become a pivotal member of Coil, one of the most groundbreaking projects of industrial, dark ambient, and experimental music.

With Coil, McDowall collaborated on classic releases such as *Time Machines* and *Musick to Play in the Dark*, contributing to their hypnotic, boundary-dissolving sound. Following his relocation to New York City, McDowall explored new territories, collaborating with numerous artists and immersing himself in the underground electronic and avant-garde communities. His solo releases—marked by modular synthesis, immersive drones, and haunting atmospheres—have appeared on esteemed labels like Dais Records and Sentient Ruin, further establishing his reputation as a master of cerebral sonic landscapes.
