Eartheater, the alias of New York-based artist Alexandra Drewchin, has established herself as a visionary force within experimental music and performance art since the early 2010s. Raised in rural Pennsylvania and now rooted in Queens, Drewchin draws on a background in classical music as well as electronic production, building a distinct sonic vocabulary that merges ethereal vocals, harp, and guitar with deconstructed club beats and dense digital soundscapes. Her work is marked by an ever-shifting interplay of the organic and the synthetic, exploring themes of transformation, nature, and the body.
She first gained critical attention with her debut album "Metalepsis" (2015) on Hausu Mountain, followed by "RIP Chrysalis" (2015), and later, acclaimed releases such as "Irisiri" (2018) and "Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin" (2020), both via PAN. On these records, and through her collaborations with dance companies and visual artists, Eartheater interweaves poetry, unconventional song structures, and virtuosic experimentation, earning her a devoted following across the avant-garde and electronic music communities. Beyond her solo work, Eartheater is known for her work with her own label, Chemical X, as well as collaborations with artists like Show Me the Body, Moor Mother, and LEYA.
Drawing as much from performance art and fashion as from music, she is recognized for her immersive live shows, where she manipulates vocals, instruments, and electronics in real time, creating a sense of ritual and vulnerability. Eartheater’s artistic practice continues to blur boundaries between the personal and the cosmic, the digital and analog, making her one of the most unpredictable and influential voices in contemporary experimental music.
