Fat Freddys Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop is a seven-piece band from Wellington, New Zealand, renowned for their genre-defying fusion of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and techno. Formed in the late 1990s, the group’s core lineup includes Dallas Tamaira (Joe Dukie) on vocals, Chris Faiumu (DJ Fitchie) on MPC and production, Toby Laing on trumpet, Scott Towers (Chopper Reedz) on saxophone, Tehimana Kerr (Jetlag Johnson) on guitar, Iain Gordon (Dobie Blaze) on keyboards, and Hopepa (Joe Lindsay) on trombone. Known for their astonishing live performances and improvisational approach, Fat Freddy’s Drop rose to prominence with their 2005 debut album “Based on a True Story,” which became a record-breaking independent release in New Zealand.

Over the years, they have built a loyal global following through relentless touring, celebrated albums like “Dr Boondigga & The Big BW,” “Blackbird,” and “WAIRUNGA,” and their ability to craft hypnotic grooves and soulful melodies that transcend boundaries.
