Juan Guerra

Juan Guerra is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges painting, sculpture, and new media, with a particular emphasis on the intersections of memory, landscape, and cultural identity. Born in Lima, Peru in 1983 and now based in Brooklyn, New York, Guerra draws deeply on his Latin American heritage, often incorporating motifs and materials that reference indigenous Andean traditions, urban migration, and personal narratives of displacement. He earned his BFA from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and completed his MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Guerra’s work has been exhibited internationally, including recent solo shows at the Museo de Arte de Lima, BronxArtSpace, and the Museo Jumex in Mexico City, as well as group exhibitions at the Queens Museum and PACE Gallery. His installations are known for their dynamic compositions, rich textures, and innovative use of found objects, fostering interactions between viewers and the environments he creates. Guerra has been the recipient of numerous awards and residencies, among them a Fulbright Scholarship, the Jerome Foundation Fellowship, and participation in the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture.

Through his evolving practice, he continually explores themes of belonging, transformation, and the layered histories present within both people and places.
