Kiasmos is an Icelandic minimal techno duo formed by Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen. The project originated from their mutual appreciation for experimental music and electronic soundscapes, blending Ólafur's background in classical and ambient music with Janus's experience in electro-pop and house. Emerging in the early 2010s, Kiasmos quickly established a distinctive signature, weaving lush piano melodies, intricate string arrangements, and minimalist techno rhythms into emotionally resonant compositions.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2014 on Erased Tapes, garnered widespread acclaim for its seamless fusion of organic textures and electronic elements. The duo’s live performances are celebrated for their immersive atmosphere and innovative use of audiovisual elements, further enhancing the emotive impact of their music. Subsequent releases, such as the EPs *Swept* and *Blurred*, cemented Kiasmos’s influence within the electronic and neoclassical music scenes, earning them a dedicated global following.
Throughout their career, Kiasmos have remained dedicated to exploring the intersections between genres, continually pushing the boundaries of modern electronic music.
