Born Steve Goodman in Glasgow, Scotland, Kode9 is a pioneering figure in electronic music, widely recognized for his influential role in the evolution of UK bass music and dubstep. He moved to London in the late 1990s, where his immersion in the city's experimental music scene catalyzed his career as a DJ, producer, and label founder. In 2004, he established Hyperdub, an innovative record label that introduced global audiences to groundbreaking artists such as Burial, Ikonika, and Jessy Lanza, and helped define the sound of a generation.

Kode9’s own productions are known for their forward-thinking blend of dub, garage, grime, and experimental electronics, marked by cerebral atmospheres and intricate rhythms. His debut album, *Memories of the Future* (2006) with the late MC The Spaceape, remains a touchstone of the early dubstep era.
