Le Loup

Le Loup was an indie folk band formed in Washington, D.C. in 2006 by songwriter Sam Simkoff.

Initially a solo project, Le Loup quickly expanded to include a collective of musicians, creating a layered, textured sound that blended traditional folk instrumentation with experimental electronics and choral harmonies. The band’s debut album, "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly," released in 2007, drew critical acclaim for its inventive approach and literary lyricism, referencing outsider art and American folklore. Le Loup continued to evolve, releasing their sophomore album "Family" in 2009, which showcased a warmer, more collaborative energy and further embraced organic arrangements.

Characterized by hypnotic banjo melodies, immersive percussion, and lush vocal arrangements, Le Loup’s music occupied a unique place in late-2000s indie rock before disbanding quietly in the early 2010s. The group’s short but impactful career resonated with listeners drawn to their ethereal soundscapes and poetic storytelling.
