Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, Matthew Neequaye developed a passion for music at a young age, absorbing the rich rhythms of highlife, hiplife, and Afrobeat that filled his neighborhood streets. Inspired by international DJs and producers, he began mixing tapes for friends, quickly gaining a following for his seamless blending of local sounds with global house and electronic influences. After honing his technical skills and ear for unique grooves, Matthew emerged on Ghana’s nightlife scene in the early 2010s.
His energetic sets and instinct for reading audiences landed him residencies at top Accra clubs, and soon he was sharing stages with renowned artists across West Africa. His genre-bending style—fusing Afro rhythms with contemporary EDM, dancehall, and hip hop—set him apart, attracting an eclectic, devoted fanbase. Matthew’s skill as a DJ translated into production work, where his remixes and original tracks earned airplay on radio stations and digital platforms.
In 2019, he launched the “Accra Nights” party series, championing both mainstream and underground African electronic music and providing a platform for emerging talent. His commitment to community is evident in his collaborations with local artists and workshops mentoring the next generation of DJs and producers. With performances at events such as Afrochella and the Chale Wote Street Art Festival, and appearances in European and North American clubs, Matthew Neequaye continues to push the boundaries of African electronic music, bridging continents and cultures with every beat.
