Nicolas Jaar is a Chilean-American composer, DJ, and recording artist internationally recognized for his innovative approach to electronic music. Born in New York in 1990 and raised between Santiago de Chile and New York City, Jaar began experimenting with music production as a teenager. He released his first tracks in 2008 and quickly rose to prominence with his 2011 debut album *Space Is Only Noise*, acclaimed for its genre-blending, cinematic sound that straddles house, ambient, and experimental forms.
Known for melding downtempo electronica with influences from jazz, world music, and avant-garde composition, Jaar has performed at prestigious festivals and venues worldwide, including Sónar, Coachella, and the Guggenheim Museum. In 2012, he founded the record label Other People, fostering collaborations and releases from boundary-pushing artists. Jaar’s collaborative work is equally celebrated.
As half of the duo Darkside with guitarist Dave Harrington, he has released critically acclaimed albums that fuse electronic and rock aesthetics. He’s composed film scores, such as for *Dheepan* (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes), and released several side projects, including the politically charged *Against All Logic* series, praised for its fusion of club energy with social commentary. Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, Jaar draws on his multicultural heritage to explore themes of identity, history, and displacement within his deeply emotive sound design.
Continuously evolving, he is regarded as one of his generation's most original and influential electronic musicians.
