Pete Tong, born on July 30, 1960, in Dartford, England, is a pioneering figure in the global electronic music scene. Launching his career as a DJ in the late 1970s, he quickly became a vital tastemaker, championing emerging sounds both in clubs and on the radio. By the early 1980s, Tong was an essential part of London’s burgeoning nightclub culture, later moving into music journalism and A&R, helping sign and develop iconic acts at London Records and FFRR.

His legendary tenure at BBC Radio 1 began in 1991, where his “Essential Selection” and “Essential Mix” shows introduced audiences worldwide to groundbreaking electronic dance music and future superstars. Renowned for his keen ear and charismatic delivery, Tong has played a pivotal role in shaping dance music trends and bringing underground talent to mainstream attention. Onstage, Pete Tong is celebrated for his marathon DJ sets and festival performances, as well as his innovative “Ibiza Classics” concerts with Jules Buckley and The Heritage Orchestra, reimagining dance anthems with live symphonic arrangements.

A recipient of numerous awards and honors, he continues to inspire new generations as a mentor, curator, and ambassador for electronic music.
