ራሄል (Rachel)

ራሄል (Rachel) is an Ethiopian contemporary artist whose work bridges the traditional heritage of her homeland with dynamic modern expressions. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, she draws deep inspiration from the vibrant colors and patterns of Ethiopia’s landscapes, textiles, and storytelling traditions. From a young age, ራሄል was captivated by the visual arts and began experimenting with a variety of media, including painting, collage, and digital formats.

Her formal training at the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design nurtured her unique visual language, characterized by striking abstractions and emotive portraiture. Through her artwork, ራሄል explores themes of identity, memory, and transformation, often weaving in personal and collective narratives of womanhood and diaspora. Her exhibitions in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Berlin have garnered critical praise, and she is recognized for her commitment to community-based art projects and the empowerment of young female artists in Ethiopia. ራሄል continues to evolve her practice, finding resonance with audiences locally and internationally, while remaining rooted in the rhythm and spirit of her cultural origins.
