Sam Amidon

Sam Amidon is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his unique reinterpretations of traditional folk songs and for blending influences from Appalachian music, indie rock, and experimental soundscapes. Born in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1981 to a family of professional folk musicians, Amidon was immersed in music from an early age, learning fiddle and banjo as a child. As a teenager, he began performing with local ensemble Popcorn Behavior and later joined the experimental folk collective Doveman in New York City.

Amidon’s solo work, beginning with his 2007 debut “But This Chicken Proved Falsehearted,” has garnered international acclaim for its inventive arrangements and soulful, evocative vocals. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with notable artists such as Beth Orton, Thomas Bartlett, Bill Frisell, and Shahzad Ismaily, contributing to a distinctive sound that is both rooted in tradition and refreshingly original. Amidon continues to perform and record, captivating audiences worldwide with his imaginative storytelling and deep reverence for folk music’s timeless spirit.
