Michel Amato, known professionally as The Hacker, is an influential French DJ, producer, and electronic music composer born in Grenoble, France. Emerging in the 1990s, he became a pivotal figure in the resurgence of electroclash and techno, blending elements of EBM, new wave, and classic Detroit techno to craft his signature sound. The Hacker first gained acclaim through his long-standing collaboration with Miss Kittin, with whom he released seminal tracks such as "Frank Sinatra" and the album *First Album* (2001), which helped define the electroclash movement.
His solo projects, including the critically acclaimed albums *Mélodies en Sous-Sol* (2000), *Rêves Mécaniques* (2004), and *Love/Kraft* (2011), further solidified his reputation for dark, melodic, and dancefloor-driven productions. Throughout his career, The Hacker has remixed and collaborated with a diverse roster of artists including Boys Noize, Ellen Allien, and DJ Hell. His DJ sets are renowned for their intensity, expertly weaving together techno, electro, and synth-driven sounds.
As a co-founder of Goodlife Records with Oxia and Alex Reynaud, he has also fostered new talent within the French electronic scene. The Hacker continues to tour globally, maintaining a significant influence on the evolution of electronic music while staying true to his underground roots and aesthetic.
