UNKLE Profile Image

UNKLE

UNKLE is a visionary British musical outfit formed in London in 1992 by James Lavelle, initially as a trip hop collective that has continuously evolved through numerous collaborations and stylistic transformations. Widely recognized for their boundary-pushing fusion of electronic, hip hop, rock, and cinematic influences, UNKLE first gained international acclaim with their groundbreaking 1998 debut album "Psyence Fiction," created in partnership with acclaimed producer DJ Shadow. Over the decades, UNKLE has involved a revolving cast of celebrated contributors such as Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown, Josh Homme, and Mark Lanegan, further cementing their reputation for adventurous sonic exploration and genre-blurring productions.

Helmed by Lavelle, who remains the project's creative core, UNKLE has released critically lauded albums including "Never, Never, Land," "War Stories," "Where Did the Night Fall," and "The Road" series, with each work marked by lush atmospheres, haunting melodies, and intricate sound design. Their work extends beyond music into collaborations with visual artists and fashion designers, reflective of Lavelle’s deep roots in UK underground culture and his enduring influence on both the electronic and alternative music scenes.
