WhoMadeWho is a Danish experimental pop trio formed in Copenhagen in 2003. Consisting of Tomas Høffding (vocals, bass), Tomas Barfod (drums, production), and Jeppe Kjellberg (guitar, vocals), the group has become renowned for their distinctive blend of electronic music, indie rock, and disco influences. Over the years, WhoMadeWho have carved out a niche in the international music scene due to their eclectic sound, genre-defying releases, and powerful live performances.
Early in their career, WhoMadeWho caught worldwide attention with their self-titled debut album in 2005, released on the celebrated German label Gomma Records. Combining quirky melodies, clever songwriting, and danceable grooves, the album generated buzz in underground clubs and among prominent DJs. Their early singles “Space for Rent” and “Out the Door” became cult hits, earning them spots at respected venues and festivals, including Barcelona’s legendary Sonar Festival.
Throughout their subsequent albums, including “The Plot” (2009), “Brighter” (2012), “Dreams” (2014), “Through the Walls” (2018), and “UUUU” (2022), WhoMadeWho continued to explore and expand their sound. Collaborating with a diverse array of artists and producers—such as Rampa, Frank Wiedemann, and DJ Tennis—they seamlessly bridge live instrumentation with cutting-edge electronics. WhoMadeWho is especially praised for their innovative live shows, transforming their crafted studio songs into immersive concert experiences.
Their live performances often feature extended improvisations, stylish visuals, and a palpable energy that captivates audiences. This reputation has led them to perform at major international festivals like Roskilde, Melt!, and Burning Man, as well as to headline clubs around the world.
Embracing an open-minded approach to music creation, WhoMadeWho’s work oscillates between melancholic pop, deep house, and cosmic disco, maintaining both underground credibility and cross-genre appeal. Their enduring commitment to experimentation, collaboration, and emotional resonance cements their place as one of Denmark’s most influential and adventurous musical exports.
