Zero 7 is a British electronic music duo formed in 1997 by producers Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. Originally studio engineers, the pair transitioned into recording their own material after remixing tracks for artists such as Radiohead and Terry Callier. Their 2001 debut album, *Simple Things*, earned critical acclaim for its blend of downtempo grooves, lush arrangements, and the soulful vocals of collaborators including Sia Furler, Mozez, and Sophie Barker.
This album was nominated for the Mercury Prize and spawned hits like "Destiny" and “In the Waiting Line.” Building on their success, Zero 7 released *When It Falls* (2004) and *The Garden* (2006), expanding their palette to include more upbeat and experimental sounds, with renewed collaborations with Sia and new contributions from Swedish folk singer José González. Their sound—rooted in chillout, trip hop, and subtle pop influences—helped shape the early 2000s downtempo movement.
Over the years, Zero 7 have continued to release music, including *Yeah Ghost* (2009) and a series of singles and EPs, sometimes venturing into instrumental and electronic territory. They remain noted for their meticulous production, genre-blending compositions, and ability to create tranquil yet emotionally resonant atmospheres. Despite evolving music trends, Zero 7’s influence and their early works retain a devoted following among fans of electronic and ambient music.
