Kontinum

Kontinum is an ambient electronic project founded by German musician Niklas Thiemann, known for crafting immersive soundscapes that explore the subtle intersections of drone, minimalism, and field recording. Emerging in the early 2020s, Kontinum developed a signature sound characterized by glacial atmospheres, rich textural layering, and a contemplative approach to sonic narrative. Thiemann draws inspiration from natural landscapes, environmental change, and the emotional resonance of stillness, often incorporating processed acoustic sources and location-based audio into his compositions.

Kontinum’s debut album, "Outwards From Nothing," released in 2021 on the acclaimed Archives label, garnered attention within the ambient community for its spacious, introspective quality and evocative use of environmental sounds. Through subsequent releases and live performances, Kontinum has continued to evolve his sonic identity, weaving together detailed auditory environments that invite listeners into states of quiet reflection and expansive listening.
