Nurse With Wound Profile Image

Nurse With Wound

Nurse With Wound is an experimental music project formed in 1978 by British artist Steven Stapleton, alongside initial collaborators John Fothergill and Heman Pathak. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Nurse With Wound quickly became synonymous with the avant-garde and industrial scenes, drawing on influences as wide-ranging as surrealist art, free improvisation, musique concrète, and krautrock. Renowned for their boundary-pushing sound manipulations, found audio collages, and playful approach to composition, the project is perhaps best known for its debut album “Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella” and the legendary “Nurse With Wound list,” a daunting inventory of obscure and influential artists that accompanied the release.

After the departure of Fothergill and Pathak, Stapleton continued to evolve Nurse With Wound as a fluid, collaborative vehicle, working with a diverse array of musicians, sound artists, and visual provocateurs, including David Tibet of Current 93 and Andrew Liles. Over four decades, Nurse With Wound has amassed a vast discography spanning records, multimedia works, and live performances, earning a devoted global following among those passionate about the outer fringes of sound and art.
