Silent Servant, known offstage as Juan Mendez, is a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer whose work has been pivotal in shaping the sound of contemporary techno. With roots tracing back to the 1990s, Mendez emerged as a key member of the influential Sandwell District collective, a group celebrated for blending techno’s analog warmth with dark, post-punk sensibilities. His productions and DJ sets often fuse intense, driving rhythms with atmospheric sound design, drawing on influences from industrial, wave, and early electronic music.
In addition to releasing acclaimed records on labels such as Jealous God, Hospital Productions, and his own imprint, Silent Servant has maintained a distinctive visual and sonic identity, championing underground aesthetics. Mendez’s work extends beyond the dancefloor: as a graphic designer, he has contributed visual art for fellow musicians and record labels, solidifying his impact across both sound and vision in the global techno community.
